29 Mar TedTalks – Professor Angela Lee Duckworth: Grit: The power of passion and perseverance
What if IQ is not the most important determinant of success in school and in life?
Psychology Professor Angela Duckworth is better placed than most people to answer this. Her extensive study of students, army cadets and corporate salespeople identified “grit” as a better indicator of success than factors such as IQ or family income.
‘Grit’ is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina… Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint, she notes.
While intelligence is required, Duckworth demonstrated that the determining factors for success were perseverance, hard work and a drive to improve!
